first things first

Psychology is a science, not a magic trick. What makes the counseling process special are the various connections we make during our experiences of working together. Many first time clients feel nervous or have fears about the process so I’ll start out by acknowledging how uncomfortable it can be to try something new! Your first session is probably going to feel like a casual meeting where I ask you some questions about your life and see what you’re hoping to achieve out of working together (P.S. it’s normal to not always know!). I’ll also work towards helping you be at ease and answer any questions you may have about me.

My job is not to A) figure out what’s wrong with you (as much as you might want me to - “Just tell me!”), B) tell you what to do, or C) analyze every mistake you may have ever made - my job is to work with you to help you grow more towards being your most authentic self. Often times, people find out A, B, or C for themselves somewhere along the way. I help people learn more about who they are and how they function so they have accurate information about the intent or reason behind their actions, listen and trust themselves more, and live in alignment which leads to long term satisfaction, success, and happiness.

My intent is to work together towards reducing your stress, help you get some relief from the heavy & confusing things you’ve been feeling, give you some answers, provide you with confidence needed to uphold your boundaries, provide some closure, address and explore any physical discomfort, and help you figure out the best direction going forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many sessions will we need?

A: Everyone is unique. I have seen people achieve progress in as little as 3. Some people come once a week for 30 weeks in a row. Sometimes people come 8-10 times preceding or following an event in their lives and then come in sporadically for “check-ups”. There is no obligation to continue on a consistent basis whatsoever. If you feel like we’re simply not a good fit but you’re still very interested in counseling, I will happily refer you to a colleague who may better suit you.

Q: How much is this going to cost me?

A: The first session is 90 minutes long and costs $225. All following sessions are 55 minutes long and cost $165 each.

Q: How do I get started?

A: Start with a free phone consult. Shoot me a quick email or leave me a voicemail and we’ll schedule a time to talk within the next few days at your convenience. At that time I can answer any questions you may have and we can get a feel for if we’re a good fit or not. You are not obligated to sign up for any sessions after the call. If you’re not even sure what you want to ask, don’t worry! I am the professional here and I can give you an overview as well as any information I think you might want or need.

Q: Do I have to do Telehealth? It seems awkward to meet over the computer.

A: Absolutely not. I offer both in-person and online sessions and you are the one who gets to choose which you prefer. Prior to COVID-19, I did not utilize Telehealth, but now I have found it to be useful and effective. This also means that we can continue sessions even if you move to another city in Texas, if you travel frequently for work, or just want to lose the commute time and see me in the convenience of your home.

Q: How do I pay?

A: When you fill out your new client paperwork, you will put a credit card on file. It will be charged after each session. You are not required to every pay for more than one session at a time. If you have HSA funds, you are welcome to pay for my services using those, you will just put that debit card # in place of payment. If you need another option, we can discuss further. I do have a strict 24 hr cancellation policy, meaning if you do not cancel your session (for whatever reason - work, sickness, etc) before 24hrs before your appointment time, you will be billed the full fee.

Q: What does scheduling look like?

A: I work towards creating a schedule that works for each client individually. You can either choose a set weekly time (i.e. Mondays at 3:30) so that you’re guaranteed a routine and consistent service if that works best for your schedule, or we can schedule as we go. The second option typically works best for those who only need to see me 1-2 times a month, for those such as medical professionals or who travel frequently for business, and service industry workers who often have rotating or inconsistent schedules. I always do my best to keep an open spot for all clients but that option does come at the risk of not being able to get an appointment if I am booked up.

Q: What are your credentials?

A: I have a Masters in Counseling from Southern Methodist University, a Texas State License (LPC #82966), a Montana State License (LCPC #57614), in conjunction to additional continuing education credits, workshops, and research review. I have been actively working in the mental health community for over 5 years.

There is Nothing Wrong with You.

We’re all human! You have earned the right to seek some professional help.

Therapy does not exist to “fix” you but rather, to give you tools, help heal your wounds, educate, normalize (promise you’re NOT the only one who feels _____), and help you flip the lights on so you can see what’s really going on!

Sometimes we will look for patterns, themes, or similarities that thread their way through your life - noticing them gives you the ability to accept them as they are or modify them as you wish. Seeing a counselor does not mean you’re weak, it means you’re brave. Feeling stuck? This is a sign you’re ready.

no surprises act / good faith estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have
insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical
items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total
expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes
related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and
hospital fees.

Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate
in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item.
You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you
choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or
service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith
Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate
